Roger Federer has committed to playing for another couple of seasons at the very least in an interview.
Federer, who had recently signed a four-year deal with the exhibition tournament organisers in Hangzhou, said he is not close to the end and is still committed to his fitness in order to continue playing till 2021.
Having last won a Grand Slam title in 2017, there has been a few voices which have spoken about an impending retirement but Federer has distanced himself from that thought process. He said he wasn’t sure when things would end but for now he was in the right space to keep continuing.
In an interview with China Global Television Network, Shanghai, Federer said:
“I feel like I have a lot of gas. The good thing is I don’t know when it is going to end. So my preparations when it comes to my fitness and my practise, it is always based on the unknown. Which means I am planning to play for over a year.”

Federer also hinted he might look to play one season without actually going through the rigmarole of a strict fitness regime. For now though, Federer noted he feels very inspired to combine the three things needed by any sportsman, fitness, practice and travel, in order to succeed.
The Swiss maestro, now ranked third in the world, came close to clinching the 2019 Wimbledon when he held two match-points against Novak Djokovic in the final. However, the top-ranked Serb came back from the death to defeat Federer in one of the most gripping Wimbledon finals of all times.
While he didn’t actually lift the title and the heartache from having lost the final must have been felt for a while, the good news for fans is that even at this stage of his career, he is regularly making it that far in the competition. And it took something extraordinary from the world number one to disrupt Federer’s chances.
Federer will now feature at the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals to finish the year but has a couple of exhibition tournaments lined up.
