A little over two years ago, Kristina Mladenovic was ranked inside the world’s top-10 after a spectacular breakout season on the main tour. Ever since Mladenovic teamed up with renowned coach on the WTA tour Sascha Bajin, it felt like a return to her early season form of 2017 was on the cards. Although she has taken small steps in her rejuvenation, the 26-year-old has posted three impressive wins over top-10 players this calendar. She beat Ashleigh Barty en route to the quarterfinals in Rome after upsetting Naomi Osaka in Dubai just a few months earlier.
Mladenovic’s most recent win over a top-10 player came during the Asian swing in Zhengzhou when she beat World No.3 Elina Svitolina en route to the semifinals.

Sevastova’s Form Faded Since Baltic Open
Anastasija Sevastova captured her fourth WTA title at the Baltic Open in her home country at the end of July, but her form has faded dramatically ever since.
She has struggled to record back-to-back wins, with the US Open being her only highlight of this second half of the campaign where she managed to achieve that feat. The Latvian comes to Moscow looking to make amends for that disastrous bout of form.
But despite her on court struggles, she registered a comfortable straight sets win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round on Monday to set up a meeting against Mladenovic. Sevastova seems to enjoy playing the big hitters, using her unorthodox slice to perfection to counter their strokes.

Sevastova has been in terrible form lately and it will be a slight surprise if she knocks out an in-form Mladenovic who performed remarkably well this autumn.
