Alexander Zverev v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

The pair have met twice before, with Zverev winning each time. Their first meeting came at the Washington Open in 2016, with the German winning in straight sets. Their second encounter, at Wimbledon last year was much closer, Zverev coming from two sets to one down to win a tough second round match.

Zverev, Looking for Strong End to the Year

Due a combination of poor form and off-the-court problems, Zverev had a poor start to 2019, and failed to build on the platform he had given himself by winning the ATP finals in London last November.

He did win his 11th career title in Geneva, and reached the final in Acapulco, but there were too many early exits from tournaments at the hands of players he would normally be expected to beat for the German’s liking.

However, he has recently begun to improve and shown glimpses of the form that made him the world’s number three player coming into this year.

He reached the semi-final in Hamburg and then again in Beijing, and made it through to the final of his last event, the Shanghai Masters, before becoming the latest man to be beaten by Daniil Medvedev in the Russian’s late season surge.

Fritz, Mid-Season Form Has Faded Away

21-year old Fritz enjoyed an excellent summer, winning his first ATP singles title in Eastbourne and reaching the finals in both Atlanta and Los Cabos. Since that run though, results have really tailed-off for the American, although he did enjoy a more-boosting win over Dominic Thiem playing for Team World in the Laver Cup.

He was knocked out in the first round of the US Open, and suffered a similar fate in Chengdu and Tokyo, although he did manage an opening win over Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the Shanghai Masters, before losing to Karen Khachanov.

Last week in Stockholm, he was beaten in the first round again, this time by the Japanese player Yoshito Nishioka.

Zverev v Fritz Predictions & Tips

Zverev is the overwhelming favourite to win this match at 13/50, whilst Fritz is priced at 277/100. Had this match been played two months ago, it might have been a close encounter, but Fritz is in a poor run of for, whilst Zverev is getting back to his best. The German should win with ease.
