Aryna Sabalenka v Maria Sakkari Head to Head

The two players have met only once on the tour, in the 2019 WTA Cincinnati Open. Sakkari won that match in three sets.

Sabalenka, Looking to Cap a Brilliant Season

Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has truly had a season to be proud of. Even though she fell out of the top 10 in the singles, despite putting up a brilliant performance, her accomplishments as a doubles player will definitely keep her afloat in the top five.

Partnered with Elise Mertens, she moved on to conquer the Indian Wells Open, Miami Open, and US Open doubles titles. Courtesy of those phenomenal runs, the number four seed became World No. 2 on the doubles tour and is primed to end the year at that ranking.

As a singles player too, she has done a good job – she successfully defended her title in the Wuhan Open and reached the final in Shenzhen and San Jose. Currently ranked World No. 14, she holds a win-loss tally of 35-22, with her most recent loss coming in Beijing where she fell to Daria Kasatkina in the opener. It’s because of these early round losses that Sabalenka lost her position in the top 10. Nonetheless, the 21-year-old has shown great promise and will be an interesting force to observe next year.

Career-Best Season for Sakkari

The 24-year-old Greek has been absolutely brilliant this season. With a career-high singles ranking of World No. 22 and a singles title from the Morocco Open, she has truly cemented her place in the top 30 and now, looks destined to go even further up next season.

Her strike, at the moment, stands at 31-20, courtesy of a rather inconsistent performance on a few occasions. Case in point, following her third-round exit in the US Open to Ash Barty, she took a long break and returned to the tour in the Kremlin Cup. There, she fell to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the opener. The same thing happened to Sakkari in Birmingham, Toronto, Paris, and a few other places too.

At the same time, she has managed to hold her own against top 10 players like Petra Kvitova, Elina Svitolina, and Kiki Bertens this year.

Sabalenka v Sakkari Predictions & Tips

This is an evenly matched fixture that can very well go either way. While it is hard to predict an outright favourite here, we can certainly expect this one to head into three sets.
