Kiki Bertens v Donna Vekic Head to Head

With head to head tally tied at 3-3, the two players have always been highly competitive, particularly against each other. They have met thrice this season with Bertens winning on two of those occasions. The Dutchwoman won their last two meetings in the St. Petersburg Trophy and the China Open.

As for Vekic, she started off strong in their early meetings in 2015 and 2016 before Bertens developed her lethal form.

Bertens, Enjoying her Career-Best Season

2019 has proven to be a phenomenal year for Kiki Bertens, who is currently set to compete in Zhuhai with a win-loss tally of 51-24. Undoubtedly, she has been among the most hardworking and consistent players on the tour.

Having made it to four distinct finals on the circuit, and going the distance in two of them, she soon reached the top five and achieved her career-best singles ranking as World No. 4. A feat she achieved shortly after winning the Madrid Open – her biggest title yet, Bertens then reached the penultimate rounds in Italian Open, and Eastbourne.

Heading into the US Open, the Dutch looked primed to retain that momentum but a slight drop in form took her out of the scene. With early exits in the US Open Series and even the Asian swing, Bertens’ ranking took a hard hit and she dropped down to World No. 10 position. In fact, it wasn’t until in Beijing that she recovered her form with a semifinal run. Then, in Linz and Moscow, she had a couple of back to back quarterfinal feats.

By all means, Bertens should have made it to the WTA Finals but nonetheless, she is definitely a heavy favourite. With her form and energy, it is going to be difficult stopping her.

Vekic, with a Menacing Run

One of the reasons why this match promises to be a big hit is because of the season Vekic herself has had. Just like Bertens, she scaled new heights and became World No. 20 – her best ranking feat yet. With two singles finals in St. Petersburg and Nottingham, the Croat achieved a win-loss tally of 35-22.

However, inconsistency has been one of the biggest pain points for Vekic, who arrived in Zhuhai following a disappointing run in her last few tournaments. In Asia, she managed just one win and same was the case for her in Linz and Moscow as well. Before that, she was having a gala time on the tour with a quarterfinal feat in the US Open, semifinal in San Jose, and the fourth round in Roland Garros.

Over the season, she has also defeated a few top 10 players like Petra Kvitova and Kiki Bertens.

Bertens v Vekic Predictions & Tips

Bertens is going to start this match as the favourite to win although, it won’t be an easy win for her. Expect this to go to three sets.
