Roberto Bautista Agut v Alex De Minaur Head to Head

De Minaur won their first and thus far only meeting at the Zhuhai Championships semifinals a month ago.

Bautista Agut Look to Clinch Debut Appearance In London

Ninth-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut looks to clinch a maiden appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals next month when faces Australia’s fast-rising star Alex De Minaur.

The Spanish baseliner is currently occupying ninth position in the Race and is in need of a deep run at the Paris Masters to stamp his ticket. He took some encouraging steps towards that goals since the beginning of the autumn season where he reached the semifinals in Zhuhai (lost to De Minaur) and the quarterfinals of the Swiss Indoors in Basel.

It has been a career of firsts in 2019 for the nine-time ATP tour champion who celebrated cracking the Top 10 for the first time in his career in August. He also reached a maiden Grand Slam semifinal a few months earlier at Wimbledon –  a result that delayed his Bachelor party in Ibiza. The 31-year-old will tie the knot with his long-time fiancee Ana Bordi Tortosa in November, and the question is whether he could be set for double celebration with a first-time appearance in London.

De Minaur Could Extinguish Bautista Agut’s Hopes

Less than 48 hours from finishing runner-up at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, De Minaur showed no signs of fatigue or weariness as he brushed aside Serbia’s Laslo Djere in the first round on Tuesday.

The young Australian broke serve five times to round off a 6-1 6-4 win to improve on his solid 32-18 win-loss record for the season. The 20-year-old is looking to maintain his sizzling late-season form which saw him win his third career title in Zhuhai and reaching the final of Basel as a wildcard.

A little over a month ago, De Minaur had never beaten a top-20 player despite his meteoric rise into the top-30 over the last two seasons. But that all changed in the span of one month with De Minaur registering big wins over Japan’s Kei Nishikori at the US Open and Roberto Bautista Agut, and Borna Coric in Zhuhai.

De Minaur is electric on a tennis court and his agility strikes you anytime you watch him. However, Bautista Agut is no slouch in that department either. The Spaniard combines patience and aggressive ability from the back of the court to wear down his opponents. Despite losing to De Minaur handily in Zhuhai, one expects to survive here and make the Race go down to the wire.
