Frances Tiafoe v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between the two on tour. The Italian won their only clash on the indoor hardcourts of Antwerp a couple of weeks ago.

Tiafoe Hoping to Find Consistency

Tiafoe will be playing at the Next Gen Finals for the second year in a row. 2019 has been an inconsistent year for the 21-year-old. He started the year in impressive fashion by reaching the last eight at the Australian Open. But since then, he has only had one tournament in the whole year where he has managed to win more than two matches. That was at Miami, where he reached the quarter-finals before losing to Canadian, Denis Shapovalov.

He is a rhythm player who is extremely difficult to play against when things are going right for him. As he showed during his maiden title at the Delray Beach Open last year, he has the game and temperament to compete against anyone on his day.

But sadly, that consistency has been missing in his game for far too long. It has been 42 tournaments since he last reached the semi-finals at an event.

Sinner Enjoying a Remarkable Breakthrough Year

Tiafoe’s first opponent in this group B clash would be the Italian wildcard, Jannik Sinner. This 18-year-old boy has had a magical 2019 so far. He has won two challenger level titles, reached the main draw of his maiden grand slam, and then reaching the last four of an ATP Tour event at Antwerp a couple of weeks ago.

This fearless Italian has achieved some remarkable results in a very short career so far. He is known for his aggressive baseline game and an impressive ability to adapt to the situation.

Sinner started the year outside the top 550 in the rankings. But on the back of a remarkable journey, he broke into the top 100 a couple of weeks ago.

Frances Tiafoe v Jannik Sinner Predictions & Tips

Tiafoe is almost fifty ranking spots higher then Sinner. He also has a better all-round game, and on paper is by far the stronger of the two. But he has lacked any sort of rhythm this year, consistently performing below his best. His game is also based on going for huge swings on his shots, something which is difficult to achieve on faster indoor courts.

Sinner, on the other hand, is high on confidence and will have a strong support of the local crowd.
