Novak Djokovic v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 32-year old Serb, and the Italian, who is nine years his junior.

Djokovic, Chasing Fifth Title in London

Djokovic has had another excellent year, adding two more Grand Slams to his collection, the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and claiming two more Masters Series titles -in Madrid and in Shanghai – bringing his total to a record of 34 victories in such events. He also won the Tokyo Open in October.

Despite these achievements though, he has just lost the coveted number one status to Rafael Nadal, and will be desperate to try and get it back if he can this week, so that he can top the rankings going into the winter break.

To have a realistic chance of doing so, he will need to win his 5th ATP World Tours Final and hope that Nadal fails to make the later stages of the tournament.

Berrettini, ATP Finals Debutant

23 year old Berrettini is the lowest ranked player in the event, and qualified despite a late bid to overtake him from the Spaniard Roberto Bautista-Agut.

2019 has been the most successful year of his fledgling career so far. He made three finals, one in Hungary and two in Germany, and won two of them, the Open events in Budapest and Stuttgart.

However, arguably his greatest success came at Flushing Meadows where he became the first Italian man in 44 years to reach the semi-finals of the US Open. He had his chances in that match against Rafael Nadal, but lacked experience on the big points, and failed to take the chances that presented themselves, especially in the first set.

Djokovic v Berrettini Predictions & Tips

Djokovic is the overwhelming favourite to win this match at 2/11, whilst Berrettini is priced at 49/10. The Serbian player will be desperate to reclaim his number one status going into the winter recess, and knows that nothing less than a win in his opening group game will do. Despite now being a top ten player, Berrettini is still not used to being included in such august company, and will start the week more in hope than expectation.
