Alexander Zverev v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head

The pair have played each other four times before, and Tsitsipas leads their head to head series by three matches to one. Zverev won their first meeting in Washington last year, but Tsitsipas has won their last three matches, including the two played in 2019, at the Madrid Masters and the Beijing Open.

Zverev, Rediscovering His Form in London

There is something about playing at the O2 Arena which appears to agree with Zverev. The scene of his greatest triumph on a tennis court last year when he won this event, the venue appeared to inspire him to produce his best tennis yet again on Monday, when he comprehensively beat Rafael Nadal in straight sets, his first ever victory over the Spaniard.

Whilst Nadal may not have been at his best, nothing should be taken away from Zverev’s performance, as he was dominant throughout, particularly on service, where he consistently served at over 140 mph, winning 88% of points on his first serve. In fact, so in command was he that his opponent failed to muster a single break point in the entire match.

In the end the Spaniard just had no answer to a man who has often struggled to find his best form in 2019, but who seems to have found inspiration just when he most needs it.

Tsitsipas, Winner of Grudge Match Against Medvedev

Like Zverev, Tsitsipas exorcised his own demons on Monday by beating Daniil Medvedev of Russia for the first time, a victory that meant the more to him because of a history of bad blood between the two men.

In a high-quality and closely fought match, there was little to choose between them, but Tsitsipas got his reward for being the more aggressive of the pair, particularly on the big points. The first set was very tight, with no breaks of serve, and impossible to separate in the tie-break, until Tsitsipas found a winning volley after a gruelling rally to create a mini-break which he duly converted to seal the set.

The second set was also very evenly matched, but a Medvedev misjudgement in the ninth game allowed Tsitsipas the chance to earn the one break of serve in the match, which he then took, serving out to clinch victory.

His enthusiastic clenched fist celebrations at the end showed how much the win meant to him.

Zverev v Tsitsipas Predictions & Tips

This match is almost impossible to call, and the bookmakers have both men at even money. Tsitsipas has won both their previous matches this year, but Zverev is the defending champion, and clearly feels at home in this venue. It may come down to just a few points on the day either way.

Tip: Zverev to win in three sets: 15/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
