Russian sensation Daniil Medvedev is back to his winning streak after his win at the inaugural Diriyah Tennis Cup in Saudi Arabia earning the massive prize money of one million dollars.
Medvedev won the final against world no. 12 Fabio Fognini to win the title.
The Russian has had the best year this season. He won the titles at Sofia and St. Petersburg as well as two masters titles at Shanghai and Cincinnati. Medvedev also reached the finals of six ATP events consecutively. With a win-loss record of 59-21 in 2019, his confidence would have shot through the roof with this victory as well.

Medvedev reached the finals of the Barcelona Open early in the year and then went on to reach the finals of the Washington Open, Canadian Open, Cincinnati Masters, US Open, St.Peterburg Open and the Shanghai Masters.
However, since his winning streak, he suffered an early loss at the Paris Masters and an unsuccessful run at the ATP Finals where he lost all three robin round matches.
Despite these setbacks, Medvedev bounced back successfully at the Diriyah Cup, the first professional international tennis tournament held in Saudi Arabia. Eight players competed for the title namely: Fabio Fognini, Stan Wawrinka, John Isner, Gael Monfils, David Goffin, Lucas Pouille, Jan-Lennard Struff and of course, Daniil Medvedev.
Medvedev defeated Fognini in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the final. He had earlier overcome Goffin and Struff in straight sets as well. Perhaps Medvedev’s form is back to what it was during his winning run in preparation for the Australian Open next month.
He said after the match:
“I am very happy to be first who won here. If it’s going to go for example twenty years, it will be very cool to be the first one.”
Medvedev was all praises about the event which will be followed by Saudi Arabia hosting the boxing rematch between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua and then will host the Dakar Rally in January.
The Russian added:
“The organisation is on top. Especially thinking that it is the first time, is really good. I think three or four years and it could be one of the best tournaments on tour.
In any case, the youngster’s impressive form will be put to test at the ATP Cup and subsequently at the Australian Open where Medvedev will try to nab his first career Grand-Slam.
What needs to be seen, however, is how does Medvedev fitness hold up after he opted to withdraw from Mubadala Tennis Championships. That has thrown his pre-season in bit of a jeopardy but more information on his fitness is still awaited.
