Former world no.4 and Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek said that ATP champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, the youngest of the new generation, is ‘exactly what tennis needs.’

At only 21 years old, he beat Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem to become the first Greek player to win the Finals.

Welcoming the younger generation of tennis, the tournament director of the Rotterdam Open said:

“It is a beautiful time in tennis. A new generation is knocking on the door. You can see that at the ATP Finals in London, where no less than half of the field is 23 years or younger.”

Krajicek especially praised Tsitsipas for his charismatic attitude on and off-court which has the ability to attract new fans for the sport, which tennis will be in need of after the departure of the older greats Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the near future.

Tsitsipas has confirmed he will play at the Rotterdam Open in February next year. This year, Tsitsipas suffered an early defeat in the round of 32 against unseeded Damir Dzumhur in that tournament but given the incredible year he had, Tsitsipas is sure to make his next campaign a memorable one.

In addition to the ATP Finals this year, Tsitsipas won the ATP titles in Marseille and Estoril. Tsitsipas reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open but suffered defeat at the hands of Rafael Nadal. In 2020, Tsitsipas will hope to dethrone Novak Djokovic in Melbourne and hope to be the first NextGen star to clinch a Grand Slam and cement his name as one of the upcoming greats.

The Greek, who won the year-end Finals, is now 12/1 (with bet365 here) to win the Australian Open 2020.

The new season will feature the records breaking as Djokovic will defend his title with Federer vying for another Grand Slam and the NextGen players set to finally defeat the Big Three to win a major.
