Unanticipated injury struggles have had a detrimental effect on his career and have made Nadal hesitant to talk about his retirement plans. However, the ultimate honour of representing his nation at the courts where he has won his greatest victories, made Nadal open up. He said:

“It is difficult to say now because it is a long way away. Logic would tell me I will not be there. But you also have to distrust logic.”
