Alexander Zverev v Alex De Minaur Head to Head

The pair have met four times on tour so far. The German has won on all four occasions, with all the matches coming on hard courts.

Zverev Looking to Put a Difficult 2019 Behind Him

The talented German won nine titles in total during 2017 & 2018. The titles included three Masters at Rome, Montreal and Madrid, as well as the 2018 World Tour Finals as well. He also has a French Open quarter-final, where he went out to Dominic Thiem.

It was always going to be difficult for the 22-year-old to replicate such a high level of performance for a third year running. And expectedly, 2019 turned out to be a steep learning curve for him. After an impressive final appearance at Acapulco, he went nine tournaments without reaching the last four. His best run during the season came during the clay-court, where he won his solitary title of the year in Geneva, followed by strong showings at the French Open & Hamburg.

He wasn’t at his best during the American hard-court swing. But he ended the season strongly with impressive showings at Beijing and Shanghai Masters. Currently ranked number seven in the rankings, the German will be hoping to start the season on a positive note before heading to Australia.

De Minaur Looking to Back up an Impressive Breakout 2019

Less than 18 months ago, the 20-year-old Australian was outside world’s top 100 rankings. Since then, he has won three ATP titles, won, and subsequently reached the finals of the ATP Next Gen Finals and broken into the top 20 in the world. He is already closing in on 200 wins since turning pro & would be hoping to find more consistency in his game this season.

De Minaur took a brave call of not playing in any challenger tournaments last year. A risky call for someone who still is getting used to the grind of playing at the top level. He had his best major showing at the US Open, where he reached the fourth round. He also performed admirably at Zhuhai and Basel, winning one and losing to Roger Federer in the other.

This year De Minaur will be looking to improve his record at Grand Slams as they are likely to help him maintain a high ranking as he gears up for another long season ahead.

Alexander Zverev v Alex De Minaur Predictions & Tips

The stats show that it will be difficult for the local boy De Minaur to compete with the German on hard courts. Zverev has an extremely dominating baseline game, and their head to head record proves his superiority.

But the support of the home crowd can be an advantage for De Minaur. It will be a close contest likely to be decided by a single break of serve in each set.

Tip: Zverev to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
