Rafael Nadal v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, with Nadal winning on each occasion. Two of those matches have been on clay, the French Open in 2017, and the Rome Masters last year, sandwiched by the 2018 US Open.

Nadal Looking to Make History in 2020

World number one Nadal has proved that he is in good form ahead of the new season, winning the invitational Mubadda World Tennis Championship for a fifth time in Abu Dhabi just before Christmas, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.

Now, he is eyeing the chance to make history in Melbourne later this month by winning the Australian Open for the second time, a victory that would see him draw level with Roger Federer’s record of 20 Grand Slam titles.

And, with the French Open in June his “banker” event, he knows that he has an excellent chance to create history all on his own this year.

Can Basilashvili Find Consistency?

2019 saw the Georgian win his third career title in Hamburg, where he successfully defended the German Open crown which he had one 12 months earlier. That though was the highlight of a mixed year that saw him struggle for consistency, finishing with a win/loss rate of 28 – 24, and which caused his world ranking to slip a few places down to 26.

Particularly disappointing was his performance in big tournaments – he only made the third round twice at the Slams, in Melbourne and Flushing Meadows, whilst his best run at a Masters event came in Miami, where he reached the fourth round.

Rafael Nadal v Nikoloz Basilashvili Predictions & Tips

This looks, on paper at least, a mismatch. Nadal is the world number one and in excellent form, whereas his opponent struggled for form and consistency last year. It is difficult to see any result except a comfortable win for Nadal and his Spanish team.

Tip: Nadal to win in straight sets: 1/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
