Denis Novak v Marin Cilic Predictions & Preview

Austrian Denis Novak meets Croat veteran Marin Cilic for the first time in his career, in a clash of the number two ranked players for the respective countries.

A consistent member of the top ten ATP rankings, and a three-time Grand Slam finalist and US Open winner in 2014, Marin Cilic had a very poor 2019 by his standards. With his ranking having fallen to number 39 in the world, Cilic had a year of injuries, poor form and early losses.

In an ever increasing competitive field, Cilic will be looking to get back to good form and winning ways early in 2020, and no better place for him than the faster surfaces Down Under that are well suited to his playing style.

A little known name on the tennis circuit, Denis Novak has been on the tour for the latter half of the decade, but only won his maiden ATP challenger title in 2019. Having gone past the first round of a major only once, Novak has some distance to go before he is a contender on the main ATP tour. Up against a player of the stature of Cilic, it is difficult to foresee the Austrian provide much of a challenge.

Expect Cilic to begin his 2020 season with a comfortable straight sets win.

Tip: Cilic to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)

Benoit Paire v Nicolas Jarry Predictions & Preview

Benoit Paire and Nicolas Jarry meet for the third time in their careers as France takes on Chile on the second day of the ATP Cup. The two players have met twice thus far with Paire winning in straight sets on both occasions.

Veteran Paire has been on the circuit for a considerable amount of time, but not managed to maintain any consistency throughout his career.

Having reached a career high ranking of world number 16 in the middle of the last decade, the Frenchman has not lived up to his abilities for the majority of his career. That being said, Paire had a positive year on tour in 2019, where he move back up in the rankings to just outside the top 20 and won two ATP titles, (incidentally only the second and third of his lengthy career). An talent with immense natural skill, Paire will look for more consistency and favorable results in 2020.

Nicolas Jarry has been on the circuit for four seasons and despite being plagued by injuries, has done well to break into the top 50, as well as win his first ATP title at Gstaad. The tall Chilean has proven his ability on all surfaces with a big serve and strong groundstrokes, but has proven to be most comfortable on the clay, given his strength from the baseline.

An evenly matched contest between two players with varied playing styles, expect the experienced Frenchman to make it home in a tight three-setter.

Tip: Paire to win in three sets: 29/10. (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)

Dusan Lajovic v Lloyd Harris Predictions & Preview

Serbian Dusan Lajovic plays young South African Lloyd Harris on Day Two of the inaugural ATP Cup. The players have met once at the 2019 Chengdu Open with the South African emerging victorious.

Ranked just within the top 100 in the world, Harris is a relatively new name on the circuit. He is best remembered for pushing Roger Federer in the opening round of the 2019 Wimbledon, winning the first set, but then the Swiss maestro recovered to win in four sets. With a steady and balanced game and a promising career ahead, Harris will make for a good support role to the number one South African, Kevin Anderson.

Serbian Dusan Lajovic has been on the circuit for a good portion of the last decade and is currently ranked number 34th. 2019 was a positive year for the Serb, with him being a finalist at the ATP Masters 1000 at Monte Carlo. Similar to other tennis players from Serbia, Lajovic has spent his career in the shadow of Novak Djokovic, but has the ability and talent to pull off favorable results, especially in a team like setting like the ATP Cup.

Expect a good contest, but the Serbian should prevail in two tight sets.

Tip: Lajovic to win in straight sets: 5/6 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)

Yoshihito Nishioka v Pablo Cuevas Predictions & Preview

Young Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan plays veteran Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas for the second time in his career on day two of the ATP Cup.

24-year-old Nishioka has been on the circuit for a relatively short period of time, but displayed promise and skill that has earmarked him as one to watch out in the years to come. With a career plagued early on by injuries 2016-2017, the young Japanese made a good comeback in 2018, winning his first ATP title at the Shenzhen Open in China. Nishioka continued his promising return in 2019, with his first win against a top ten player defeating Kei Nishikori at the Cincinnati Masters. Ranked just outside of the top 50, the young Japanese will look for a strong start to 2020 and capitalize thereafter.

Veteran Pablo Cuevas has been a force to reckon with on the slower clay courts, but never failed to provide a spirited contest on other surfaces as well. Once ranked within the top 20 in the world, the Uruguayan at 34 years of age, has maintained his consistent form to be ranked within the top 50. An integral part of the Uruguayan challenge at the ATP Cup, the Spaniard will have his hands full on the faster courts, but is a contender that can never be ruled out.

Expect a good contest between two different generations, with Nishioka to win in three tight sets.

Tip: Nishioka to win in three sets: 13/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
