Borna Coric v Hubert Hurcacz Head to Head

The pair have met once so far on the tour. On that occasion, on the clay courts of Monte Carlo, Coric prevailed in three sets.

Coric Coming Off the Back of Impressive Win Over Dominic Thiem

2019 was a frustrating year for the 23-year-old Croat. He entered the last season on the back of an impressive 2018 campaign, where he won a title at Halle beating Roger Federer in the finals and reached the finals at the Shanghai Masters. Coric started last season rather impressively too, reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open.

He followed it up with a semi-final run in Dubai and making it to the last eight at Miami, Monte Carlo and Rome. But a back injury halted his progress, and upon his return, constant niggling injuries and loss of form meant that he never quite got going. He did not win more than one match in any of the last seven tournaments of the season.

Coric started ATP Cup 2020 on a bright note, beating Dominic Thiem of Austria in a three-setter. That victory over world number four will give him a huge confidence boost.

Hurkacz Looking to Continue His Steady Rise in 2020

In the last two seasons, the 22-year-old Hurkacz has made unspectacular but significant progress on the tour. He started 2018 outside of the top 200 rankings in the world. But by the end of that season, not only had he broken into the top 100 but also reached the main draws of three Grand Slams.

In 2019, his stock rose further after he made it to the last eight at the Indian Wells. A few weeks later, he was in the round of 16 at Madrid masters and then won his maiden ATP title at Winston Salem.

His decision not to play on the challenger circuit in the second half of 2019 did come at a cost. In five out of the last six tournaments of the season, he crashed out in the first round. Standing at 6’5″ he has a very potent serve and likes to play on the hard courts. He won his first match of the tournament against Diego Schwartzman of Argentina in three sets.

Borna Coric v Hubert Hurcacz Predictions & Tips

The match is between two hard-working players, both of whom are coming in on the back of victories over higher-ranked opponents. The Croat is a slight favorite for the match given his experience. But Hurkacz has shown in the first match that his persistence, ability to grind out points and wear his opponent down can yield excellent results. It is likely to be a close contest.

Tip: Coric to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
