Adrian Mannarino v Alexander Bublik Predictions & Preview

World number 43 Adrian Mannarino will take on Kazakh 56th-ranked Alexander Bublik in their opening round match in Doha on Monday and it will also be the first time they will face off at the highest level. Mannarino, a former world number 22, has been on the circuit for a few years now, but over the past two years has shown a decline in his form.

For instance, in 2018, he won just 27 matches and lost 31 while this record only marginally improved to 30-31 in 2019. Here’s the deal though. Despite being around on the circuit for those many years, Mannarino hadn’t won a single title till the middle of 2019 when he finally clinched his maiden victory at the Rosmalen Open. Can that give him the confidence to fight forward?

22-year-old Bublik will be only in his fifth year of the circuit and while he is yet to win a title, his 2019 was a lot better than his opponent’s. On hard courts and indoor hard courts, he won 32 and lost 21 of the matches he played and made it to the final of two ATP events. The first came at Newport on grass and he followed that with another on the hard courts of Chengdu.

Bublik looks a good bet to win this one.

Filip Krajinovic v Kyle Edmund Predictions & Preview

Filip Krajinovic might be the seeded player here on account of his higher rank – he is 40th to Kyle Edmund’s 69th – but his Brit opponent has won both their matches. The first one came on the clay courts of the Rome Challenger in 2016 but more recently, they faced off again at the Shanghai Masters in 2018. And for the second time in a row, Edmund won in straight sets.

The Serb, Krajinovic, has had a couple of years which can best be described as roller-coaster rides. In 2018, he won just 14 matches and lost 17 while following that up with a solid showing in 2019 when he had a 46-21 win-loss record. Edmund, on the other hand, finished 22-23 on win-loss last year and slipped from a career-best 14th to his current 69th in the rankings.

Which is also why it’s a surprise to see Edmund start out a heavy favourite in this one, 4/6 to Krajinovic’s 11/10. Despite Krajinovic’s obvious love for clay, this is excellent value to go for.

Aljaz Bedene v Mikael Ymer Predictions & Preview

Last year, the Swede Mikael Ymer met Aljaz Bedene in a Challenger tournament in Orleans and won the encounter in straight sets. That was the only time these two players had met on the circuit and now they meet again in Doha for their first round match.

The 30-year-old Slovenian Bedene had a solid 2019 campaign that saw him end the season with a quarterfinal at the Vienna Open after starting out as a qualifier. Earlier, he had also made it to the final at the Metz Open where he lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, denying him his first ATP title since 2011.

Ymer’s a 21-year-old who makes it to our 10 players who could break into the top-10 list here and that is a direct result of the talent on offer. The Swede is a qualifier here, having already won a couple of matches to make the main draw and is coming off a 2019 where he won four titles at the lower level and ended the season following his qualification for the Next Gen ATP Finals.

He can be expected to give Bedene a fight but tough to call out a clear favourite here. Instead, we go with three sets in this match.

Miomir Kecmanovic v Jordan Thompson Predictions & Preview

Not much to choose as far as their rankings go, with Kecmanovic, at 59th ranked just four places above Thompson. However, in the two previous matches, Kecmanovic has won both including one last year at Antalya in the semifinals. The Aussie also had a poor record on hard court surfaces, winning and losing 14 apiece and it comes as no surprise Kecmanovic starts off a favourite here.

Tip: Kecmanovic to win: 8/11 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
