Borna Coric v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between the pair. The Croat leads the tally 2-1. The Argentinian’s only meeting came at the 2018 French Open.

Consistency an Issue for Coric

The first two matches in this tournament for Coric summed up the main issue that the 23-year-old faces. He won the first match against much higher ranked Dominic Thiem of Austria. But in the second match, he lost in straight sets to Hubert Hurcacz. Lacking consistency has been a constant problem with the talented Croat since his return post a back injury in 2019

That injury also derailed his season in which he had already made it to a semi-final at Dubai and three more quarterfinals. Upon his return from the injury, he could not progress beyond the second match of any of the seven tournaments he played at the end of last season.

He will be hoping to gain some consistency heading into the Australian Open. He reached the fourth round at Melbourne last year and will be looking to improve on the same.

Schwartzman Entering 2020 on the Back of an Impressive Season

The 27-year-old Argentinian reached three finals and two semi-finals last year. His title victory at Los Cabos was his third of the career and he also reached the last eight at the US Open, losing to the eventual champion Rafael Nadal. His solid season meant that he reached his career-best ranking of 11.

Primarily considered as a clay-court specialist, last year he made a conscious decision to play more matches on hard courts & cut back on the clay-court events. The result of the decision was impressive too as he recorded a higher win percentage on the hard courts last year then on clay.

His performances in this tournament have been disappointing so far. He lost a close three-set match against Hubert Hurkacz in the first match followed by a straight-sets loss to Dominic Thiem. His team still has a chance of finishing second in the group provided in an unlikely event of Poland beating Austria. But for Schwartzman himself, a strong performance going into the Australian Open will be a huge confidence boost.

Borna Coric v Diego Schwartzman Predictions & Tips

Coric has better form going into this match then Schwartzman. But his issue of not being consistent with his performances can cause him trouble. Schwartzman did play some good tennis in the second set against Thiem and if he can find his range again he has more then a good chance against Coric. The match is likely to go to three sets.

Tip: Schwartzman to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
