Julia Goerges v Jil Teichmann Predictions & Preview

This will be the first time Julia Goerges, the two-time defending champion and Jil Teichmann, of Switzerland, will be facing off in a competitive match. And this could turn out to be an interesting one.

Goerges is gunning for a hat-trick of titles at Auckland which would obviously be made difficult by the presence of some of the stars present in the draw. Before that, however, she will need to get past the little-known but fighting Teichmann. The Swiss world number 68 is coming off two title wins in 2019, which were the first two of her career.

The catch is, Teichmann won them on clay while on hard court surfaces she struggled through. Of the 14 matches she played, Teichmann won just four and lost 10 of them. The 41st-ranked Goerges was 13-9 last season on hard courts and struggled on clay.

Which is why, the German starts off a favourite, and probably in straight sets too.

Caroline Wozniacki v Lauren Davis Predictions & Preview

Caroline Wozniacki should feel confident to get past Lauren Davis in their second round match at the WTA Auckland Open on Thursday. That’s, in a way, related to Wozniacki’s 2-0 record against Davis on head to head, which includes two, straight-set wins on hard court surfaces. The last time they met was at the China Open last year and the Dane, former world number one won 6-1, 6-3.

Wozniacki, who has announced the Australian Open would be her last tournament before she retires from the sport, had no trouble getting past Paige Hourigan. She dropped just one game against the Kiwi wildcard entrant to book her place in this second round match. Davis also won in straight sets, defeating Varvara Lepchenko but now faces a tougher contest.

What should give Davis some confidence is her performance in 2019, which was one of her better showing. She finished the year at 38-20 win-loss, which included a semifinal appearance at the Newport Beach Open, and qualifying for the Wimbledon main draw before reaching the third round there. What that did was to help her grow from being ranked 202nd in the world at one point in 2019 to end the year ranked 64th.

Wozniacki favourite but might see a third set here.

Cori Gauff v Laura Siegemund Predictions & Preview

On paper, this is a match between equals, what with Cori Gauff ranked 67th to Laura Siegemund’s 73rd. However, where Siegemund has the experience of having played for 18 years in her career, Gauff is not even 18! However, ask the experts about their talent and you would hear most of them talk up Gauff.

Gauff wasted no time getting past Viktoria Kuzmova, winning 6-3, 6-1 to stamp more proof about her growing talent. With a title win to her name at an age of 15 last year, Gauff is racing ahead in the rankings too and could prove to be a tough nut to crack for most players at the highest level.

Siegemund, on the other hand, isn’t very fond of hard court surfaces, and is 16-23 on win-loss on this surface. Gauff continues to be a favourite for us as a result.

Tip: Gauff to win: 8/15 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
