Dusan Lajovic v Felix Auger-Aliassime Head to Head

The pair have never met each other on tour so far. This will be the first clash between them.

Clay Court Specialist Lajovic on an Impressive Run so far

Almost 66% of the matches that Lajovic has won during his professional career have come on the clay courts. For someone who prefers one surface so heavily, his performances on the hard courts in this tournament have been impressive. He has won two matches, albeit against lower-ranked opponents, and took Benoit Paire to three sets before losing out.

He is coming off the back of a year where the tennis gods finally smiled on him. After more than 12 years since turning pro, Lajovic won his maiden ATP title at Umag. He also recorded some big-name victories over likes of Daniil Medvedev, Kei Nishikori, and Dominic Thiem.

He reached his highest ever ranking of 23 on the back of a strong first half of 2019. But an inconsistent end to the season saw his slip out of the top 30 as he failed to win more than one match in any of his last ten tournaments of the season.

A Difficult Start to the Season for Auger-Aliassime

After having an impressive breakout season in 2019, the 19-year-old hasn’t quite started the new season on the right note. He did win the first match of the tournament against the world number 486, Michail Pervolarakis. But he has looked well below his best since then. Two straight-sets losses to players below him in the rankings would have been tough on his confidence.

He is set to make his Australian Open debut this year as he crashed out in the second qualifying round last year. He reached two semi-finals and three finals last year, one of which was a fantastic run from the qualifying rounds to the last four at the Miami Masters. The 19-year-old was also the highest-ranked Canadian player on tour for a short while.

He achieved some notable feats by becoming the youngest ever finalist at an ATP 500 event and the youngest ever semi-finalist at the Miami Masters.

Dusan Lajovic v Felix Auger Aliassime Predictions & Tips

This is a match between a player who is over-performing on a surface that he hasn’t had much success on and a player who has performed below par so far this tournament. It will be interesting to see which trend breaks in this match. The Canadian has a powerful forehand and is overdue a strong performance in this tournament. Auger Aliassime will start the match as a slight favorite.

Tip: Auger Aliassime to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
