Caroline Wozniacki v Jessica Pegula Head to Head

This will be the first time that Wozniacki will be facing off against Pegula in a competitive match.

Wozniacki in Red-Hot Form

After been stretched by Lauren Davis in the second round and admitting she was slightly lucky to come through to the quarterfinal, Wozniacki polished off her quarterfinal opponent Julia Goerges in fine style. The two-time defending champion had come into the match on level terms as Wozniacki having won six of their previous 10 encounters.

However, Goerges proved to be no match for Wozniacki’s solidity in their fourth meeting at Auckland and won it comfortably 6-1, 6-4 to set up this meeting against Pegula. The Dane was so dominating she never lost her serve in the entire match, and faced just three break-points, saving all of which comfortably.

As opposed to that Wozniacki broke Goerges thrice in the match and made 15 lesser unforced errors than her opponent which proved to be the difference between the two. She now takes on an opponent she hasn’t played before but given the kind of form she is in, it wouldn’t be any more difficult than it has been so far this season.

Pegula Leaves 2019 Blip Behind

Pegula might be ranked 82nd in the world and has had a career-high of 55th on the WTA Rankings but she has a title on hard court last season. She had gone on a winning run at Washington in 2019 to clinch the victory, but her form strangely fell away drastically after that as Pegula lost in round one of five successive tournaments after that.

That inexplicable blip in form has been followed by three back to back wins for Pegula in Auckland which includes an opening round victory against Catherine Bellis. Pegula won 6-0, 6-4 against Bellis before crushing Tamara Zidansek 6-2, 6-3.

And in her previous match, Pegula was leading Alize Cornet 6-0, 3-2 when the Frenchwoman, who had beaten the American in their previous meeting, retired from the match because of an injury. A relatively fresh, and firing Pegula could fancy her chances of pushing Wozniacki in this one.

Caroline Wozniacki v Jessica Pegula Predictions & Tips

Wozniacki starts off an obvious favourite to win this one and given her form, it would be hard to argue against it. However, Pegula is showing the kind of spark she had in her sole title win last season and could take the Dane to a third set.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 8/5 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
