Karen Khachanov v Dasun Lajovic Head to Head

The pair have played twice before, both times on clay, with Lajovic winning on each occasion, in Kitzbuhel in 2016, and Madrid two years later.

Khachanov Doing Well for His Team

World number 17 Khachanov has proved to be a strong number two player for Russia this week, and has won all of his singles matches to date, beginning his campaign with a comfortable victory over Stefano Travaglia of Italy, the world number 83 and a clay court specialist.

He then overcame the tougher challenge of Taylor Fritz of the United States, who took him to a third set, before the Russia’s superior fitness and experience on court made the difference.  However, in his third group match, he easily disposed of the Norwegian Viktor Durasovic, dropping just three games in the course of a straight sets win over the world 317.

Khachanov was in equally god form in his quarter final, brushing aside the threat from Argentina’s Guido Pella, again in straight sets.

Taylor Fritz of the United States was a much tougher opponent, and the pair traded sets, until Khachanov ran away with the match in the third. However, he easily saw off the challenge of Viktor Durasovic of Norway, dropping just three games to the world 317.

His only blemish has been on the doubles court. After partnering Daniil Medvedev to victory over Simone Bolelli and Paolo Lorenzi, they were beaten by the American pair of Austin Krajicek and Rajeer Ram, although it did not matter in the overall context of the tie, which Russia still won.

Neither Khachanov nor Medvedev have featured in their subsequent doubles matches.

Lajovic, a Useful Foil to Djokovic in Australia

Winner of the Croatian Open last year, and runner-up in the Monte Carlo Masters, Lajovic has proved to be a useful foil to Novak Djokovic this week, getting Serbia off to a winning start in the ATP Cup on Saturday, when he came from a set down to beat the South African number two, Lloyd Harris.

He suffered defeat in his next match, going down to Bruno Paire of France, again in three sets, although it did not matter in the overall context of the tie which Serbia still won.

However, he comfortably defeated Nicolas Jarry of Chile and, in his quarter-final tie with Felix Auger-Aliassime, produced arguably his best performance of the tournament so far, beating the Canadian teenager in straight sets for the loss of just four games..

Karen Khachanov v Dusan Lajovic Predictions & Tips

Despite the fact that Lajovic has won both of those previous two encounters, they were played on clay, the Serb’s favourite surface. The ATP Cup, however, is played on faster, hard courts, which are more to the liking of the Russian, and should tip the tie in his favour.

Tip: Khachanov to win in straight sets: 5/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
