Anisimova is just 19, will be playing Serena, 20 years her senior, and the two will be playing each other for the first time in their careers.
Williams in Fine Fettle after Easy Win
The world number 10 Serena Williams was tested by Christina McHale in her second round match and admitted it was a good match for her, winning but after being stretched to three sets. And that would have helped her in her win against Laura Siegemund.
Serena cruised through the first set and was down a break in the second, trailing 1-3 and 0-40 in the fifth game on serve. She came back from that position to hold serve, break back and from there on it was just one-way traffic as she completed a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Siegemund.
The match lasted just an hour and a half with Serena outdoing her opponent with 26 winners and six aces, six and five more than Siegemund respectively. One factor which did bother Serena was the wind and that’s been the case for many of the players throughout the tournament. Question is if that becomes that big a factor going into her semifinal.

The last time Serena played against a 19-year-old in a competitive match, she was taken apart by her opponent in straight sets. Bianca Andreescu’s punching forehand took care of an erratic Williams in that US Open final last year and the American did not play in another tournament after that before participating in Auckland.
Anisimova announced herself last year with a win over Simona Halep at the French Open quarterfinal after having won a title at Bogota, both of which came on clay. Her record in hard court competitions wasn’t too much to write about, winning and losing nine apiece in 2019, but that had come following a solid 2018 when she was 24-9 on win-loss on that surface.
That included a finals appearance in Hiroshima and fourth round at Indian Wells, after having defeated Petra Kvitova in the previous match. Will she now take that giant leap forward and emulate Andreescu by overpowering her legendary opponent?

While Anisimova is a player for the future and might even break into the top-5 very soon, we think Williams has all the weapons to get the better of her younger opponent. Expect her to come out all guns blazing and win in straight sets.
