Simona Halep v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

The pair have met three times on the tour so far. The Romanian has won on all three occasions in three sets.

First Match of the Season for Halep

Anticipating a tough season ahead where Halep hopes to add an Olympic medal to her records and win her third Grand Slam, she took an extra week off the tour before starting her season. This will be the first match of the season for the 28-year-old Romanian. She admitted a few days ago that she wouldn’t be too worried if she doesn’t have a great Australian Open as the summer Olympics are the main priority for her this year.

The Romanian has been a model of consistency for a long time now. In each of the last year six years, she has ended the year in the top four in the rankings. She has won two Grand Slams and reached three more finals. She has also won 11 other titles in the same period. Her win-loss record for each of the last seven years has been above 70%.

Post-Wimbledon, Halep only played two out of the Premier five tournaments on tour. She admitted that she felt like “she was falling into pieces” owing to constant niggles and troubles with minor injuries. She decided to limit her playing time for the rest of the season so that she could reenergize after six years of non-stop tennis at the top level.

Tomljanovic Coming off an Average 2019

After an impressive 2018 where she began from outside the top 100 in the rankings and finished in the top 50, Tomljanovic had an average 2019 campaign. Her overall win-loss record was 31-30 & she only managed to reach in one final & two semi-finals out of the 30 events she played in.

Last week she went out in the round of 16 at Brisbane to Karolina Pilskova. She did win in the straight sets in the first round here. And she would be hoping to play some good tennis against a far superior opponent as she prepares for the first Grand Slam of the year. This year she would hope to go beyond the first round exit she suffered in Melbourne last year.

Simona Halep v Ajla Tomljanovic Predictions & Tips

The only chance that Tomljanovic would have in this match would be if Halep is still rusty & not on her game. The Australian has already played four matches at the start of the season and will have the support of the local crowd with her. It is still difficult to look past the Romanian for the match, but it is likely to be a close contest.

Tip: Halep to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
