Sofia Kenin v Danielle Rose Collins Head to Head
The pair have faced each other twice in their careers so far. The American has won both the matches in straight sets. But both of those matches were played on ITF circuits. This will be their first meeting on the WTA tour.
Kenin Coming off an Impressive 2019
2019 was a breakthrough year for the 21-year-old American. She won three WTA titles and also reached the semi-finals at Cincinnati & Toronto. She started 2019 outside the top 50, but her amazing run meant that she was the world number 14 at the end of it.
Some of the names that she beat last year were Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams, and Ashleigh Barty. It would be interesting to see if she can keep her consistency in her game this year or struggles with the weight of expectations? She started the 2020 season with a first-round win at Brisbane but went down in three sets to Osaka in the next round. In Adelaide, she registered a straight-sets victory in the first round over Viktorija Golubic.
Impressive Start to 2020 for Collins
After an impressive 2018 and strong start to 2019, where she reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open, Collins had a rather sub-par season last year. Her game lacked consistency and could never put a run of impressive results together. In the 18 events after the Australian Open, she only managed to reach the last eight on two occasions. One of which was an ITF Circuit event.
But she has started the new season in a rather impressive fashion. After reaching the quarter-finals at Brisbane, she won her first-round match in Adelaide in straight sets. It will be a tough task for her to repeat her heroics of last season at the Australian Open, but an upturn in form is a promising sign for the American. She would also hope to add to her solitary title from Newport Beach that she won in 2018.
Sofia Kenin v Danielle Rose Collins Predictions & Tips
This is likely to be a close contest. Both the players have started the season strongly. Kenin has more experience with her, but Collins has shown in the past that she can take on the very best in the world on her day. A single break of serve is likely to decide each set here. Kenin remains the slight favorite going into the clash.
