Marketa Vondrousova v Arina Rodionova Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 20 year old Vondrousova, and her Australian opponent, ten years her senior.
Vondrousova Returning Back from Injury
20 year old Vondrousova is a former world number one junior who began playing on the ITF circuit as a 14 year old, and won her first, and. to date, only WTA title in 2017 at the Ladies Open Biel Bienne.
However, having reached the fourth round at the US Open in 2018, her major breakthrough came last year in Paris at Roland Garros where she reached the final of the French Open without dropping a set, before she was thrashed by Ashleigh Barty in straight sets.
However, after picking up a wrist injury in her first round defeat to Madison Brangel at Wimbledon, she was forced to have surgery and missed the rest of the season.
Her comeback match came against Tatjana Maria of Germany in the first round here, and she coped well enough, winning in straight sets, and conceding just three games in the process.
Rodionova, Conqueror of Sloane Stephens
30-year-old Rodionova is currently ranked 204 in the world, and, on the senior circuit at least, is best known as a double’s player, reaching the quarter-final of the Australian Open in 2016. Her major successes have come on the junior ITF Circuit tour, although it has now been nearly two years since her last singles title, which came at Obidos, in Portugal, although she did lose two finals last year.
Having come through the qualifying competition here, she was expected to be an easy first round opponent for the former US Open winner Sloane Stephens, but she upset the odds to comprehensively defeat the American in straight sets, losing just four games in the process.
Marketa Vondrousova v Arina Rodionova Predictions & Tips
This should be a straightforward win for Vondrousova. She may be a little rusty after her injury lay-off, but she should still have too much for an opponent who has little form to speak of on the senior WTA tour, and whose victory over Sloane Stephens was a major surprise.
