Belinda Bencic v Danielle Collins Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 22-year-old Swiss woman, and the American, four years older than her.
Bencic Reaches Quarter Finals After Tough Battle
Bencic is keen to build on a successful 2019, which saw her win two WTA titles, reach the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows, and rocket up the WTA rankings, breaking into the world’s top ten for the first time.
2020 began in disappointing fashion with a first round defeat to Anna Blinkova of Russia, but she got her campaign in Adelaide off to a better start by defeating another Russian, the qualifier Darina Kasatkina, in the first round.
That earned her a second round tie with the experienced Julia Goerges, a woman against whom she had experienced her fair share of battles in the past, and again it was a tight affair which saw both sets go to tie-breaks. Bencic won them both, but, in truth there was very little between the two players, except the ability of the Swiss woman to play the big points better.
Collins Easily Overcame Kenin
Prior to last year, Collins had never won a WTA title before, or won a match at a Grand Slam. However, she rectified the record on both fronts, First, she won the Hawaiian Open, although she did not have to lift a racquet to do so, lifting the title after her proposed opponent, Angelique Kerber, withdrew from the final.
She also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, beating Kerber on the way.
Proving that she has a liking for playing in Australia, she thrashed the world number seven, Elina Svitolina in Brisbane last week in the first round, dropping only two games in the process, before eventually losing to Madison Keys in the quarter-final.
She has carried that good form into this week, beating Aliaksanra Sasnovich of Belarus, and then compatriot and number seven seed, Sofia Kenin, both in straight sets.

This might be another tight battle, and Collins has shown that she is in form in Australia, a country in which she likes to play. Despite this, Bencic is tipped to win, because she is the higher ranked player.
