Johanna Konta v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

The pair have met twice so far on the tour. Konta won their first-ever meeting on the hard courts of Sydney in 2015. Jabeur, on the other hand, won on the grass courts of Eastbourne last season.

Knee Injury a Concern for Konta

The 28-year-old recently declared that she struggled with her knee injury for the best part of 2019. She wants to manage her workload better this year and has decided to skip the Fed Cup duty for Great Britain. The Brit has played only one match so far this season in which she lost in straight sets at Brisbane.

She played in a limited number of tournaments last year, but her performances were impressive. Konta reached the finals at Rabat and Rome as well as the semi-finals at the French Open. She only played in six tournaments post the Roland Garros, but two of them were Grand Slams, reaching the last eight in both of them. On the back of these impressive runs, she broke back into the top 20 rankings and ended the year as world number 12.

Konta opting to not play in the Fed cup will be a big blow for Great Britain, but she is still keen on playing in the Summer Olympics this year. Her best performance at the Australian Open was in 2017, where she reached the quarter-finals.

Jabeur Coming off a Tough Loss in Hobart

After making it to the main draw at Hobart after winning in two qualifying rounds, Jabeur lost out in the second round to former world number one, Garbine Muguruza. Despite a tough three-set loss, the Tunisian seems to be playing some good tennis at the moment. In 2018, the 25-year-old became the first-ever Arab player to reach the finals at a WTA event. She has also been a top 100 player for over one and a half seasons now.

After an impressive 2018, Jabeur had a tough time last year. Her win-loss record was 22-23, and she only reached the semi-finals stages of two events in the year.

This will be the fourth time she will be playing in the main draw at the Australian Open. She will be hoping to take advantage of her opponent’s lack of fitness and form to reach the second round at the event for the first time.

Johanna Konta v Ons Jabeur Predictions & Tips

The biggest challenge Konta will face in this match is likely to be her form & fitness then her opponent. Jabeur has beaten top ten players in the past, but a fit Konta will be too big a challenge for her. Despite lack of match time, Konta will start the match as a favorite.
