Sofia Kenin v Coco Gauff Head to Head

The pair have never met each other on tour before. This will be the first-ever meeting between them.

Kenin Looking Impressive in Melbourne

The American ended last season with early exits from Beijing, WTA Elite Trophy, and the Masters Cup. Her start to 2020 also wasn’t quite great as she suffered back to back second-round exits from Brisbane and Adelaide. But this week in Melbourne, she is playing extremely well. She has won all three matches in straight sets so far.

She has already surpassed her best-ever showing at the event by reaching the fourth round. Last year’s second-round exit was her best run at the tournament to date.

Apart from the last month on tour last year, she had a rather impressive 2019. She had a win-loss record of 49-23 and won three WTA titles. She started the season outside of the top 50 in the rankings but ended as the number 12. After the tournament, she will be very close to breaking into the top ten for the first time in her career.

Gauff Coming off Victory Over Champion Naomi Osaka

Gauff became the youngest woman in 15 years to win a WTA title with her title at Linz. She is also the youngest player inside the top 100 rankings currently. These are a couple of records that the 15-year-old American achieved last year. She reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, having started from the qualifiers and also the third round at the US Open.

Now with her victory over the defending champion Osaka, she has added another feather to her bow. She has now beaten two top ten players in her career and seven other players who have been top ten in their careers.

Regardless of what happens in her next match, she is surely going to break into the top 50 when the next set of rankings are going to be announced.

Sofia Kenin v Coco Gauff Predictions & Tips

Even though Kenin is the favorite going into the match, all bets are off with regards to predicting what Gauff can do right now. She has already beaten Venus Williams and Naomi Osaka this week. And if her fellow American, Kenin isn’t quite up to her game, she may well join an illustrious list of players that Gauff has beaten.
