Tennis News Today: Kenin to Feature in 2020 WTA Dubai Open

Sofia Kenin v Katie Volynets predictions and tips

Sofia Kenin, the reigning Australian Open champion is all set to dominate Dubai where she will play at the Dubai DutyFree Tennis Championships starting February 17.

It’s been a stellar journey for the young sensation from a year ago when she had come to Dubai ranked 37 in the world. This time around, she comes back ranked seventh after taking the tennis world by a storm in the iconic final at Melbourne having beat two-time Grand Slam champion, Garbine Muguruza.

Colm McLoughlin, CEO and Executive Chairman of Dubai Duty Free added that it was a ‘pleasure to watch’ the performance of Sofia Kenin in Melbourne and she was a champion in the waiting. He further added the WTA tournament is looking forward to having her in Dubai and see her success on the courts that will be shared by all three of the other current Grand Slam champions.

The WTA event of the Dubai Duty Free Championships commences on February 17 and runs until February 22. The ATP tournament is going to be held from February 24 to 29.

Salah Tahlak, the tournament director commented that the unexpected run of Sofia Kenin at the Australian Open shows that there is no guarantee of success for even the very top-ranked players, something that has also been the characteristic of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. He added:

“We can certainly look forward to a wonderful two weeks of thrills and upsets.”

Meanwhile, after that iconic in Melbourne, Kenin said that her dream officially had come true. This was after she had failed to qualify beyond the fourth round of any Grand Slam tournament she had played earlier. But she was on the rise throughout after having won two titles, qualifying for the WTA Finals (as an alternate) and the WTA Elite Trophy at Shenzen and Zhuhai respectively.

While the tournament line-up is glowing with the likes of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, a lot of attention is going to be on Sofia Kenin, the new star of tennis.
