Kwon Soon-Woo v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

The pair have never met each other on the tour. This will be the first-ever meeting between them.

South Korean Kwon Coming off Victory Over Local Favourite Gunneswaran

South Korea’s highest-ranked player on the ATP tour finally ended his four-match losing streak by beating India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the round of 16. He will now fancy his chances of going all the way considering that only one player higher than him in the rankings is left in the tournament.

In 2019, the 22-year-old had his best year on the tour in terms of the number of victories he achieved. Mainly playing in the challenger circuit, he ended last season with a win-loss record of 58-25. He also made it to the main draws of the Wimbledon and the US Open. Kwon’s best run of the season came when he reached the round of 16 at Atlanta and followed it up with reaching the last eight at Los Cabos.

He also made it to the main draw at the Montreal Masters. This run took his ranking from 125 to 81 in the world in just two months. He won two lower-level titles at Yokohama and Seoul as well. This year he would be hoping to play more on the ATP tour. A win here will mean that he will play his first-ever ATP semi-final.

Late Bloomer Gerasimov Continuing his 2019 Surge

For someone who has played close to 600 matches since turning pro, last year was the first time he tasted relative success on the tour. He enjoyed his best run of results when he reached the semi-finals at Saint Petersburg and followed it up with impressive results at Chengdu and Moscow. In a matter of 10 days, he beat Matteo Berrettini and John Isner.

This resulted in him breaking into the top 100 of the rankings for the first time in a decade long career. This year he reached the second round at the Australian Open where he went down to Alexander Zverev. He is looking in solid form this week in Pune and will be hoping to replicate his run from Russia last year to reach another tour semi-final.

Kwon Soon-Woo v Egor Gerasimov Predictions & Tips

Gerasimov starts this match as a slight favourite. He has been in better form leading up to this match and handles the pressure better. Kwoon, on the other hand, has lost the last four matches that have gone to the deciding set. This may prove vital in this match which is likely to be a close contest.
