Denis Shapovalov v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head

This is the second meeting between the two players. Their only meeting was in 2016 on the hard courts of the Canadian Masters, which was won by Dimitrov.

Shapovalov Hoping To Shrug Off Early Melbourne & Montpellier Losses

Young Canadian Denis Shapovalov broke onto the scene at the Rogers Cup in Montreal in 2017, where he defeated Juan Martin del Potro and Rafael Nadal.

It was an up and down two seasons for him with a lot of promise and impressive showings like the semi-finals of the 2019 Miami Open Masters 1000, yet a host of disappointing losses.

The young Canadian joined forces with former Russian player Mikhail Youzhny around the 2019 US Open, which saw a turnaround in his form and fortunes.

Shapovalov had a strong run during the Asian hard court swing and then won his first title at the Stockholm Open. He made his first Masters 1000 final at the Paris Masters where he was runner-up to Novak Djokovic.

The young Canadian led his country to the finals of the Davis Cup and quarterfinals of the ATP Cup which saw his rankings move up to number 13 in the world ahead of the Australian Open.

However, first round losses at the Australian Open and Montpellier thereafter would have set him back and he will look to a good run this week to get his season back on track.

Erratic Dimitrov Looking To Reverse Fortunes

Grigor Dimitrov ended 2017 ranked number three in the world having won the year end ATP Tour Finals in London.

The former grand slam semi-finalist had a torrid season and a half thereafter, with injuries, poor form and early round defeats in succession.

The summer of 2019 saw the Bulgarian drop outside the top 75 in the world. But, a semi-final run at the US Open defeating Roger Federer en route saw him move up in the rankings back into the top 25.

However, the end of 2019, the Australian Open last month and the Montpellier Open last week again saw early exits for Dimitrov who will surely be hoping for a consistent run this month, heading to the Sunshine Masters.

Denis Shapovalov v Grigor Dimitrov Predictions & Tips

An exciting match between two supremely talented players  looking for consistency on the tour awaits us.

While Dimitrov has reached heights beyond what Shapovalov has thus far in his career, the Canadian has been in better form in recent months.

A clash between two flamboyant single handed backhands will be down to Dimitrov’s experience versus Shapovalov’s ability to outhit with his flashy groundstrokes.

Expect the Rotterdam regular and more experienced Dimitrov to prevail in a deciding set in this first round encounter.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in three sets : 6/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
