Petra Kvitova v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head

There has been just one match between Kvitova and Alexandrova and that came at the Australian Open earlier this year. Kvitova won that to hand Alexandrova her only defeat of the season so far. Yep, Alexandrova has lost just one match in 2020.

Kvitova in Solid Form But…

…she made the semifinal at the Brisbane International and then lost to Madison Keys before entering the Australian Open quarterfinal and going down against Ash Barty. Kvitova, who had won two titles last year and five in 2018, will be hoping to break that hold and go the distance for a change in this one.

A quarterfinalist last year at this tournament, Kvitova is an indoors specialist, but had a wretched last season on it when she lost four of her five matches. And she looked like she was in early strife against another indoor specialist in her second round match, as she needed a tie-breaker to win the first set and lost the second 6-1 to Alison van Uytvanck.

However, Kvitova used all her experience to come back and win the third to set up this meeting.

Alexandrova’s Crushing Form Continues…

…starting the week ranked 28th in the world, Alexandrova has now made the quarterfinal here, which is where she was ousted last season too. What that means is she has already defended her points from the previous year and a win here would push her further into the green.

Even without that, she looks to have gained one spot on the rankings, and could be inching towards her career-high of 26th. Where she would make it worrisome for Kvitova is the kind of form she has shown even while getting past Donna Vekic in the second round.

We had a strong sense she would edge past Vekic, but the manner in which she crashed on her opponent’s party was quite telling. She was off the blocks even before Vekic had a chance and while the Croat fought a little in the second set, Alexandrova ran away with the match in straight sets.
