Kiki Bertens v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head

This will be a first-ever meeting between defending St. Petersburg champion Kiki Bertens and Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Bertens On Course For Second Title in Russia’s Second City

Kiki Berten’s is a winner of nine singles WTA titles. But only on one previous occasion was she successful in retaining her crown, and that was in Nurnberg where she won back-to-back titles, in 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The Dutch powerhouse will have the opportunity to defend her title this week provided she navigates her way into the final. Given the ominous form she has displayed since losing the fourth-round match at the Australian Open, it would take a monumental effort to stop her.

Bertens won two singles rubbers in the Fed Cup last weekend against Belarus, giving all she could to steer her country to the Finals, but they ended up losing the decisive doubles rubber.

But that disappointment could only spur her on to turn things around this week. She demolished Veronika Kudermetova of Russia in her first outing in just 57 minutes and then her experience won over youth as she beat a spirited qualifier in the shape of Anastasia Potapova in the quarterfinals.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay in the world’s top-10 for the last two seasons, and she has recorded some impressive results on hard courts despite clay being her forte.

Alexandrova is Already a Title-Winner in 2020

Ekaterina Alexandrova has been one of the most in-form players on the WTA circuit this year, claiming her maiden title in Shenzhen during the opening week of 2020, defeating the likes of Qiang Wang, Garbine Muguruza and Elena Rybakina.

She went on to equal her career-best showing at a Grand Slam when she made the third round of the Australian Open, but suffered a chastening straight-sets loss to Petra Kvitova.

The 25-year-old Russian had earned a shot at redemption this week after making the quarterfinals where she was due to play the Czech left-hander, but sadly, Kvitova was forced to pull out due to illness. It is a bittersweet moment for Alexandrova, but she will be ecstatic at the prospect of reaching her second semifinal of the season.

Alexandrova has won 11 of her 12 matches played so far in 2020, and if there was one player in the draw that is capable of ending Bertens’ streak in St. Petersburg, it would certainly be her.

Kiki Bertens v Ekaterina Alexandrova Predictions & Tips

This is a very close contest and a close call too. Bertens is coming into this match on the back of some hugely impressive wins from Fed Cup action last weekend. Alexandrova on the other hand, has only lost one match this year. I think it would be safe to pick a close tussle which is likely to go the distance.
