Kyle Edmund v Andreas Seppi Head to Head

This will be their sixth meeting with Edmund having won four of their previous five matches. Seppi’s only win had come on clay in the 2018 Monte-Carlo Masters, with Edmund having won their previous encounter earlier this year at the Auckland Open second round.

Edmund Upping the Ante after Poor Start

As mentioned in the head to head above, Edmund had overcome Seppi in the second round at the Auckland Open but then fell to John Isner in the quarterfinals. That was his best ever performance of 2020, having earlier stumbled at the first hurdles at Doha and Australian Open.

Edmund went down to Filip Krajinovic in the first round of the Doha Open and then entered the Australian Open first round match against Dusan Lajovic as odds-on favourite (1/2). However, he was sent packing in straight sets to leave his early season campaign in disarray.

Which is why a final appearance at the New York Open would have come as a big surprise to most. What has obviously helped is Edmund was left to face just one seeded opponent, sixth seed Miomir Kecmanovic, and to his credit, came away with a crushing 6-1, 6-4 victory.

With form and confidence on his side now, Edmund will be hard to stop.

Italian Veteran Seppi Looking for First Title in Eight Years

Seppi last won a title at the ATP level in 2012, and has a total of three titles under his belt – all on different surfaces. Since then, he has progressed to become a journeyman, carving out a few match wins here and there, and getting upset at other times.

And almost nobody saw this result coming as a result of his string of poor ones before the New York Open. He had played in three Challenger tournaments during the first six weeks of the new season and lost in the first round of all of them, and then there was another second round defeat at the Australian Open.

More interestingly, in none of the first three rounds he played here, did Seppi start out as a favourite – Damir Dzumhur, Steve Johnson and Jordan Thompson all in as bookmaker’s choices. It was only in his victory over another surprise semifinalist, Jason Jung did start out at 7/10 to win and delivered it in straight sets.

Kyle Edmund v Andreas Seppi Predictions & Tips

Edmund’s the bookmaker’s favourite, with bet365 offering 4/9 for him to win this while Seppi starts out at 7/4. Could be slightly closer than that given Seppi’s experience and we might see a three-setter in this one.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 8/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
