Karolina Pliskova v Kristina Mladenovic Head to Head

This will be a sixth meeting between Pliskova and Mladenovic, with the most recent of those coming at the 2020 Australian Open. The Czech won in straight sets in Melbourne. Overall, Pliskova leads 3-2, but one of Mladenovic’s wins came in Dubai in 2017 when she stunned the former World No.1 6-2 6-4 in a second round meeting.

Pliskova Eyeing A Second Premier Title of 2020

It wouldn’t be stretching the truth to say that Karolina Pliskova’s happy hunting period has now resumed. Pliskova has flattered to deceive at the Grand Slams for the past few seasons, and in Melbourne there were now signs of a change in her fortunes. She was beaten in third round, surprisingly by the 30th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight-sets.

It would come as a welcome boost now that she has returned to competitive tennis on the WTA tour, starting with the Dubai Championships, where she finished runner-up to Simona Halep in 2015 – her best result at the event in her seven previous visits.

Pliskova will attempt to go one better this year than in 2015 given her hard court prowess and very kind draw. She has already captured a Premier title in 2020 after winning the Brisbane International last month, beating the likes of Naomi Osaka and Madison Keys.

Mladenovic Has Beaten Pliskova In Dubai Before

Kristina Mladenovic has navigated her way into the main draw of the Dubai Championships for the fourth time in six visits. Her run this year has been extremely impressive considering the opponents she had to overcome.

She beat Jasmine Paolini, Daria Kasatkina (former World No.10) and Polona Hercog without dropping a set to qualify, and then ousted Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round –  a player she had never beaten on hard courts in three previous attempts.

Mladenovic has now qualified to the second round for the second successive year and will attempt to avenge her defeat to the Czech power-hitter in Melbourne.

The World No.38 will take plenty of her heart from her brilliant win over second seed at this event three years ago. At the time, Mladenovic was at the peak of her game and beat Pliskova in straight-sets. While that result is still a long shot for a repeat, it is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Karolina Pliskova v Kristina Mladenovic Predictions & Tips

Pliskova, unsurprisingly is the favorite here, but I don’t think backing her money line would be a smart pick. Mladenovic has not dropped a set so far this week, and granted she lost in straight sets in Australia, she still did push the Czech in the second set of that match, eventually losing 7-5. While conditions are not too dissimilar from Melbourne, I still think Mladenovic is good enough to take a set here.
