This is the second time Svitolina and Anisimova will be clashing with each other. In their first meeting which came in the 2018 Cincinnati, Svitolina was a 6-4, 6-4 winner.
Svitolina Looking for a Turnaround in Fortunes
A semifinalist at the 2019 edition of the Doha Open, Svitolina would like to repeat her sparkling showing from the previous season. In fact she would be desperate for that after an underwhelming start to the season which has seen her make only the third round at the Australian Open and a quarterfinal in Hua Hin.

And if that wasn’t enough, Jennifer Brady further rubbed salts in her wounds by routing her 6-2, 6-1 in the opening round of the Dubai Tennis Championships. With an opening round loss already endured at Brisbane, Svitolina enters this tournament heavily undercooked and in all probability, worried about the nature of these defeats – at Brisbane she had lost 6-1, 6-1 to Danielle Collins.

Anisimova Stalled a Losing Streak
Anisimova would know she will enter this match with a solid chance of surprising the world number six but she will also have a lot to do on her own if she has to go all the way.
After all, not too long ago, the American herself was on a three-match losing streak which started with the Auckland Open semifinal defeat to Serena Williams. While defeating Williams at the best of times isn’t a given, it was the next two losses that would have taken the sting out of Anisimova.
She went down to Zarina Diyas in the first round at the Australian Open before suffering another opening loss at the hands of Barbora Strycova in Dubai. What would, therefore, please the American is her clinical 6-3, 7-6 win against Ekaterina Alexandrova in which her opponent had her chances but Anisimova never allowed to seal the deal.
