Elena Rybakina v Alison van Uytvanck Head to Head

In their only previous outing which came in 2019, Rybakina was a straight-set winner on the grass of Rosmalen.

Four-Time Finalist Rybakina on Fire

Rybakina has featured in five tournaments this season before Doha and made the final in four of them. While she missed out getting deeper at the Australian Open as she bowed out in the third round to Ash Barty, her showing at the others has been nothing short of spectacular.

With a win-loss record of 20-4 this season, Rybakina has already registered the most wins on the ladies tour this year with the next best at 13-3. She has already won a title as well, beating Shuai Zhang in the final of the Hobart International, following which she lost to Kiki Bertens and Simona Halep in the title-deciders at St. Petersburg Open and Dubai.

Rybakina, who played as recently as Saturday in that Dubai, showed signs of exhaustion as she took on Sorana Cirstea in her opener here in Doha. She lost the first set before regaining form and completing a three-set win over her. Now she takes on van Uytvanck, who is ranked 62nd in the world.

Van Uytvanck Won Two Titles Last Year

Alison van Uytvanck might be ranked outside the top 60 at the moment and has never seen the top 35 in the women’s rankings, but she is a dangerous floater on the tour. Last year, she added two more titles to her kitty, which is now proudly reading a figure of five, and ended the season on 17-13 win-loss record on hard court and indoor courts.

She comes into this second round match with a 6-2, 6-2 drubbing of Polona Hercog but her season has been anything but as easy so far. First round losses at Hobart and Australian Open would have pegged her back and while she finally won her first WTA match at St. Petersburg when she defeated Kristina Mladenovic, Petra Kvitova got the better of her in the second round.

And following that she failed to qualify for the main draw in Dubai. She has a tough one now in the second round but van Uytvanck has the tenacity some of the best in the business.
