Petra Kvitova v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

There have been six previous outings between Kvitova and Ostapenko and both players have won three apiece. Interestingly, the last four matches, all of which came in the period between 2016 and 2018, were all straight-set wins for the players, with Kvitova winning three of them.

Kvitova Pushed to a Three-Setter by Navarro

Such has been the rivalry between Kvitova and Navarro it wouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise when their second round match went to three sets. Kvitova, who had to rally from the loss of the first set, came back strongly to register a 6-0 win in the final set and move to the third round.

Kvitova was coming into this tournament following an illness-related withdrawal from the St.Petersburg Open where she was scheduled to play her quarterfinal against Ekaterina Alexandrova. And that result had followed two solid performances from Kvitova, but those which did not yield a final.

First she was knocked out in the semifinal at the Brisbane International by Madison Keys. And then at the Australian Open, looking to make it to the final for the second year running, Kvitova was defeated in straight sets by Ash Barty at the quarterfinal stage. As mentioned above, in both those tournaments, Kvitova had looked like she had the goods to go the distance but fallen close to the final hurdle.

Can she get past her Latvian opponent here and make the last-eight here for starters.

Ostapenko Looking to Get Back into Her Own

Following the sad passing away of her father, Ostapenko has had understandable struggles at times this season but in these last two matches here at the Doha Open, she has looked like she is finding her rhythm again.

First she overcame Jil Teichmann in three sets to kick-start proceedings but more vitally, her 6-1, 6-2 drubbing of Barbora Strycova should give her the necessary shot in the arm for this Kvitova encounter.

Such was the one-sided nature of the contest, Ostapenko faced only two break-points in the entire match and saved both, while Strycova faced 18 of them and was broken five times in the process. The one area of improvement, however, for Ostapenko, would be her first serve percentage, which was down to a paltry 52.3% – a number Kvitova will have no two thoughts before taking advantage of.

Petra Kvitova v Jelena Ostapenko Predictions & Tips

Kvitova starts off as a favourite to win it with odds of 4/9 for that to happen but it won’t be before Ostapenko gives her a fight. A three-setter looks a likely result, so either that or go with over 21.5 games in the match.
