Tamara Zidansek v Renata Zarazua Head to Head

This will be the second match between these two with Zidansek having beaten Zarazua at the qualifiers of the 2018 French Open. Zidansek herself had then fallen at the next hurdle.

Zidansek’s Much Improved Showing on Hard Court

Ranked 74th in the world, Zidansek has a special affinity towards clay, having won two titles on it at the $125k level. She was 16-9 on win-loss last year on that surface and in 2018, when she was still featuring in many of the lower-level tournaments, Zidansek finished the season with a whopping 43-8 record on that surface.

Her record on hard courts? Not that great. Which is why her showing in this competition is even more to savour. Zidansek started off with a straight-set win over Anna Kalinskaya in the first round before winning 6-2, 6-2 against teenager Kaja Juvan in her second round match.

If she wins this one against Zarazua, it will be her first semifinal at a WTA competition since the 2019 Hua Hin Open, which means there’s a lot at stake at her.

Zarazua Marches into Maiden WTA Quarterfinal

If Zidansek’s appearance in the quarterfinal here is a surprise, it’s an even bigger one for Zarazua to make it to this stage. Ranked 270th currently, and having never topped the 180th-rank mark, Zarazua got a wild-card to play in her first top-level WTA tournament this year.

And she has made it count with back to back wins which have taken her through to the quarterfinals. While she was stretched to three sets by Katie Volynets of the USA in the previous round, a bagel in the final set ensured there would be no real drama in the end.

Zarazua’s first ever entry into the quarterfinal had already taken a huge scalp earlier in the day. She had beaten the top seeded Sloane Stephens in a shocking two-sets, dropping just six games in the end in her opening round match. Can she now pull past her Slovenian opponent in this one?

Tamara Zidansek v Renata Zarazua Predictions & Tips

Zidansek is a solid 2/5 to win this one and 1/1 to do that in straight sets. And we reckon that is how things might go for her in this one as she storms in the semifinals.

Tip: Zidansek to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
