John Isner v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

Isner and Fritz have played three matches against each other so far. While Isner holds the upper hand with a 2-1 lead, it was Fritz who won their last meeting. This was in the Auckland Open in January 2019.

Isner Looking to Regain His Touch

John Isner has not had the ideal start to season 2020 so far. He lost all three matches at the ATP Cup, retired mid-match in the Australian Open third round and also crashed in the first round in the New York Open last week.

The big serving American, however, is slowly coming back to form in Mexico.

Isner defeated German Mischa Zverev in the tight first round match before going on to overcome fellow American Marcos Giron in straight sets in the second. And then the quarterfinal went to three sets against another American Tommy Paul.

However, none of these three opponents can be deemed to have the same tennis pedigree right now as Taylor Fritz. He will give Isner the most formidable challenge so far in the tournament.

Fritz Missing the 2019 Form

Fritz had a memorable 2019 winning his first ATP title in Eastbourne and also breaking into the top 25. Like his semi-final opponent Isner, however, Frtiz has not the start he wanted in 2020.

He won just one match in the ATP Cup and also was eliminated in the third round of the Australian Open. Last week in Darley Beach Fritz was eliminated in his 1st match.

In Mexico so far however, the American has looked pretty solid on the court. He saw off a tricky opponent in Australia’s John Milman in his opener. The second round match was pretty straightforward win against Frenchman Ugo Humbert.

Fritz defeated another tough opponent in the form of Britain’s Kyle Edmund in the third round in straight sets which could signal a change in his fortunes given Edmund was on bit of a roll himself.

John Isner v Taylor Fritz Predictions & Tips

There isn’t much to separate the two players at the moment. Both have a great serve and would like to hit that with pin point accuracy. Isner may be the higher seed on paper but recent form makes Fritz a slight favourite. Expect a close match that could go to two or three tie-breakers.
