Sloane Stephens v Emma Navarro Head to Head

Stephens and Navarro have never played each other.

Stephens Winless in 2020

March is up and running. The tennis world is braced for high octane tennis in North America for the traditional Sunshine Double. But since the Indian Wells and Miami double-header is still a handful of days away, a few players on the WTA tour will be looking on their shoulders looking to wipe the slate clean of the turbulent years gone by.

Ideally, that should have happened in January during the Australian summer, but Sloane Stephens is no stranger to losing games, or to put it precisely, losing games on a consistent basis. Such has been the form displayed by the one-time Grand Slam winner who is desperately looking to eke out a first victory of 2020 season.

The 26-year-old American has lost in the first round in each of her four tournament participation this year, with the latest setback in her portfolio of embarrassing defeats coming to World No.270 Renata Zarazua in Acapulco.

Stephens, being a former champion and the top seed, was comprehensively beaten by her Mexican opponent and she now sits precariously outside the top-30. Remarkably, three of her four defeats this year have come against players ranked outside the top-100.

Can she post her first win on the board when she faces American qualifier Emma Navarro?

Navarro Breaking New Ground in 2020

Emma Navarro is a fantastic tennis prospect hailing from Charleston who has been ranked as high as No.3 in the Junior circuit.

Among the list of achievements garnered at junior level: she finished runner-up at the 2019 French Open, but managed to claim the title in doubles with partner Chloe Beck. The 19-year-old also reached the semifinals at Wimbledon last year.

Navarro will be making her second WTA main draw appearance to follow up with her previous sole showing at tour-level in Charleston in April last year.

Sloane Stephens v Emma Navarro Predictions & Tips

Stephens is in dire form and it wouldn’t be a surprise if she falls again here against a teenager who has risen to an elite place among the top juniors. But having said that, Navarro is not equipped to compete at this level just yet and the experienced American should come through.

Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 4/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
