Mitchell Krueger vs Steve Johnson Head to Head

This is the first time Krueger and Johnson will be playing each other meaning there is no past head to head record between these two.

Krueger Enduring an Underwhelming Season

Krueger is still yet to ignite this year. He almost never progresses past two rounds in all the tournaments he’s participated in this season. And he is yet to participate in any ATP tournaments as he keeps losing in the qualifiers.

His best performance this season was at the Challenger Newport Beach where he reached the semi-finals. However, he lost to Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galán after two sets.  Krueger had caused some upset in this tournament and will have some level of confidence. He defeated No. 4 seed Radu Albot in the second round and world no 97 Barrere.

He’s yet to win a title and will fancy his chances of reaching the Indian Wells Challenger Finals and have a shot at glory.

Johnson Having a Good Season at Challenger Level

Johnson has enjoyed success at Challenger level this season. His semi-final appearance at the Indian Wells Challenger is evident of his good challenger form.

The American won the Bendigo Challenger title at the beginning of the season. Before that, he reached the quarter-finals at the Canberra challenger. And he also reached the semifinals of the Challenger Newport Beach.

Johnson has been unable to replicate his good challenger form on the ATP tour. His best run in the ATP tour this season is at the Delray Beach Open. Johnson reached the quarter-finals where he lost to Milos Raonic.

Mitchell Krueger v Steve Johnson Predictions & Tips

Johnson should defeat Krueger in straight sets. While the two American have never played before, Johnson is just levels above Krueger. Krueger has never ranked higher than 169th in the world while Johnson has a high career-ranking of 21.

The gulf in the experience and quality is clear. And Challenger tournaments are Johnson’s favourite snacks. But Johnson must not underestimate Krueger as the 26-year-old old has caused some upset in this tournament.
