The US Open organisers have provided an update on whether or not the tournament will be hosted this year following the widespread cancellation of sporting events around the world.
According to an update on the official US Open website, there would be no changes to the US Open schedule for 2020 as things currently stood but there will be a periodic update to this situation.
One of the reasons why the US Open organisers can afford to take the wait-and-watch approach is because the tournament is still a good five odd months away. There is hope the efforts taken by the governments around the world will stall the illness by then.

In a media release, the US Open said:
“Currently, we are not implementing any changes to the 2020 US Open, and plans for the event are ongoing. We are fortunate to have many months between now and the first day of Fan Week on Monday, Aug. 24.
However, we recognize that circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 virus are rapidly changing, and the USTA is carefully monitoring all CDC and governmental updates, as well as conducting regular briefings with medical and security experts regarding the coronavirus.”
Things are already looking bleak for the French Open organisers, who probably have a few weeks before they take a call on whether or not to go ahead with the season’s second grand slam. Similarly, Wimbledon authorities have expressed reluctance to play the tournament to closed stadiums, and revealed they might prefer cancelled the competition instead.
The ATP competitions have already been suspended for a period of six weeks going up to April 20 while WTA has taken an even drastic measure of cancelling tournaments till the first week of May.
