The last set of four players have been added to the Madrid Open Virtual Pro which begins from Monday and leading this group is Stefanos Tsitsipas and the recently-retired Caroline Wozniacki.

The Madrid Open Virtual Pro will also see Canada’s Denis Shapovalov and Donna Vekic of Croatia take part in this virtual competition which will run for four days in a bid to attract fans and raise money for tennis players affected financially because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The tournament called the eSports of tennis has already seen the likes of Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev sign up as some of the big ticket men’s tennis players.

The women’s draw has Karolina Pliskova, Petra Kvitova, Elina Svitolina and Belinda Bencic making it to the 16-player strong field.

Each section of the draw, men’s and women’s will see its 16 players divided into four groups of four players apiece. Every player will participate in three matches during the group stages of the competition.

The winner and runner-up from each group will make it to the quarterfinals, which will be followed by the semifinals and the title-deciding final.

Wozniacki, who last played in the Australian Open before calling it quits from pro tennis, said she was “looking forward to showing off my skills” on the PS4.

Vekic, on the other hand, said she hasn’t had too much experience playing in the virtual world but wanted to do her best. She added:

“It’s such a great idea. Uniting the tennis world through the only possible platform in these rough times is an amazing initiative, especially taking into consideration the charitable aspect of the tournament.”

More information on the rules of the competition is still awaited but for now what’s known is the players will take to the specially and virtually recreated Manolo Santana Stadium with the Tennis World Tour video game.

Players will be sacrificing their racquets in this day and age of the pandemic having forced people to distance themselves socially, and taking part in this competition from the comforts of their homes.
