Tamara Zidansek v Oceane Dodin Head to Head

This will be the first time Zidansek will be facing Dodin in a competitive match.

Zidansek With a Need to Turn Things Around

Zidansek’s career was looking upward when she went on a brilliant winning run over the three-year period between 2015, 2016 and 2018 but over the past two seasons things haven’t been as rosy for her.

The Slovenian did win the WTA Bol title last year but finished the season on a 24-25 win-loss record and then started off this year with just five wins and eight losses to her name already. Three of these defeats came in the Fed Cup while her best showing came in Acapulco where she made the quarterfinal with wins over Anna Kalinskaya and Kaja Juvan.

Zidansek’s advantage going into this match is she isn’t facing one of the tougher opponents of the tournament for starters. More importantly she is playing on clay where she has won 16 of her 19 singles titles at every level.

Lucky Loser Dodin Looking to Ride Her Luck

23-year-old Dodin has been around for a while, having risen to 46th in the world in 2017. Since then, however, she has seen some ups and more downs, resulting in a fall to 116th in the world.

This year, however, the Frenchwoman had shown promising signs before the season was suspended. After starting out with a qualifying defeat at the Australian Open, she made it to the St. Petersburg Open quarterfinal as a qualifier. That included a win over Johanna Konta too.

She then featured at the ITF Macon where she finished a winner, her only title of the year. A Lyon Open quarterfinal ended with a loss to the Sofia Kenin, before the tour ended.

Dodin is a lucky loser here, having made the third round of the qualifiers but going down to Nadia Podorska and the big question now is whether she can do one better?
