Camila Giorgi v Kaja Juvan Head to Head
This will be the first time the 89th-ranked Girogi and 121st-ranked Juvan will go head to head in a competitive match.
Giorgi Off to a Steady Start on Clay
Giorgi was slow off the blocks in her opening round match against Rebecca Peterson but once she got her rhythm, she was difficult to stop. In the end, the Italian won 7-5, 6-4 to set up this meeting against Juvan.
Having not played in any exhibition matches during the pandemic break, Giorgi was expected to face issues for starters but the manner in which she closed out her opener would have given her some confidence. What made the win even more special was her record on clay.
The Italian hadn’t played a single match on this surface since her third round defeat at the 2018 French Open – more than two years ago. For her to then steamroll her opponent, one who has been around for a while and doing a good job on this surface would have come as a pleasant surprise.
Now facing a second round opponent ranked lower than her in the form of Kaja Juvan will be an interesting test given her solid clay court record.

Just 19 years old, Juvan made it to the main draw on the back of three back to back wins in the qualifiers but wasn’t expected to go too far after that. When she lost the first set of her first round match 6-1 to the second seeded Marketa Vondrousova, it looked like the writing was on the wall.
Juvan fought back to take a 4-0 lead of her own in the second set but then threw that away as well to allow her more-pedigreed opponent back into the match. Vondrousova took a 5-4 lead but Juvan then ran away with the next three games in a row to wrap up the set.
Interestingly in the third set, for the second time in a row Juvan blew away a 4-0 lead only to serve things out and win 6-4 to win the match. The manner of her wins in this competition, hard-fought, and at times, comeback from behind, would have given her oodles of confidence going into a match like this.
If she can close matches out when she has her chances, she could prove to be a stiff opponent to the more experienced Giorgi.

Giorgi starts off at 8/13 to win this but we reckon Juvan, who is more of a clay-court player than her opponent, could prove to be a surprise. Backing Juvan to win this.
