Yulia Putintseva v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
This will be the first time Putintseva will be playing the 63rd-ranked Teichmann in a competitive match.

For someone who hasn’t played a single competitive since the Doha Open in the last week of February, Putintseva looked like she had never been away. Pitted against the experienced Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic in her first round match, Putintseva registered a crushing 6-0, 6-4 win over her to march into the second round.
Interestingly, these two, Tomljanovic and Putintseva had met in a first round match at the Adelaide International and the Aussie, at home, had registered a straight-set win over her. The tables were turned in this encounter and how!
Putintseva had had a solid previous season, in which she won her maiden WTA title and followed it up this year with a third round presence at the Australian Open before she lost to Simona Halep. There was another performance of note which came at the Qatar Open where she stunned Elise Mertens to reach the third round.

Teichmann Following on From Her Best Season
Teichmann has a couple of WTA titles under her belt, both of which came in 2019 and interestingly, both on clay court surfaces. She finished the season with a 25-6 win-loss record on clay last year, but on other surfaces, she was 8-18.
Now, playing on the hard surface of Lexington she was drawn to play Anna Kalinskaya, Putintseva’s doubles partner. And while she was pushed in the second set, Teichmann was able to go through in straight sets.
Interestingly, Teichmann has made the second round in just two of her five tournaments this season, but never beyond that. In fact over the past two seasons, there has been just one instance of Teichmann winning two main draw matches in a non-clay court competition.
