Her quarterfinal showing at the Australian Open had won Ons Jabeur the Breakthrough Performance of the Month in January and she hasn’t looked back since then.
Four victories at the Fed Cup, and a second round appearance in Dubai, was followed by another solid showing at the Qatar Open. While a defeat to Petra Kvitova meant she was still some time away from winning consistently against top-10 players, Jabeur’s form has been of note.
She started off in this competition against Catherine McNally with a straight-set win and then edged out Olga Govortsova in a three-setter. Jabeur started off slowly, but overturned the loss of the first set to clinch the victory.
Jabeur admitted she found it tough to discover her rhythm because of the lack of tennis over the past few months, but was later aided by good serves at crucial times.

Gauff Going from Strength to Strength
Expected to win against Caroline Dolehide, Gauff did that in straight sets but it was a tough first round win. However, it wasn’t expected to be this straightforward in the second round when she took on Aryna Sabalenka.
As it turned out, Gauff defeated Sabalenka 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 to register her second win against a Top-20 player this season. And she credited the victory to her “mentality” at crucial points during the encounter.
This was on display when Gauff overturned a loss of serve to go 5-2 up. And while Sabalenka turned things around too in the first set, the American won the set in a tie-breaker. The Belarusian took a 5-2 lead of her in the second and finally claimed it 6-4.
In the final set, Gauff had the early break before Sabalenka won it back and the sequence repeated once again to make it 4-3 in favour of the latter. Gauff, however, won 12 of the next 14 points to win three games in a row and seal off the set and the match.
