Borna Coric v Benoit Paire Head to Head

This will be the third outing between Coric and Paire. The Croatian Paire has won both their previous matches, having been played in 2016 at Cincinnati and 2018 in Dubai. Both came on hard courts, the same surface used in this tournament so that, by itself gives Coric bit of an edge.

Coric Recovers from Coronavirus

Ranked 12th at the peak of his career, Coric has seen some struggles lately. He started off the season with a stunning win against Dominic Thiem at the ATP Cup but was shockingly underwhelming in his next couple of encounters where he went down in straight sets.

A first round defeat at the Australian Open would have been difficult to digest for Coric, especially after he had dished out his career-best showing in 2019 at the year’s opening major.

And while he showed some sparkle when Coric made it as far as the semifinal at the Rio Open, it proved to be his last hurrah before the tour went on a break because of the pandemic.

On his return during that very break, Coric has featured in two competitions – one, at that ill-fated Adria Tour in which he got infected by coronavirus and the second at the Eastern European Championship. At the latter he lost three of the four matches he played in, to come into this tournament with not too much of confidence under his belt.

Mixed Year for Paire

A 2-1 win-loss record at the ATP Cup was followed by a final appearance at the Auckland Open for Paire and at that stage of the season, it looked like the Frenchman had begun from where he had left off previous season. Two of his three ATP titles had come in 2019, albeit both on clay.

However, since that defeat to Ugo Humbert in the final of the Auckland Open, Paire’s form slide was alarming. He lost in the second round at the Australian Open, and that was followed by a couple of opening defeats in Pune and Rotterdam. A victory apiece at Marseille and Dubai were both followed by crashing defeats, which is why when the season went on a break, it might have probably been bit of a relief for him.

During the time away from the ATP circuit Paire has been plying his trade at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown, where his form hasn’t improved at all. Just three wins from 12 matches underlines a bit of a problem ahead for the Frenchman.

Borna Coric v Benoit Paire Prediction & Tip

This is a match between two players who have both been out of sorts this year and that’s why one can see an error-filled but exciting encounter that goes to a three sets. Tough to pick a winner though!

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
